If you consider CBS, what springs to mind? I am aware that I am not the first person to say that, but I think about it as the "old man's network", since you're going to be hard-pressed to discover any trendy or cutting edge displays on "The Eye". In the last ten years, the only show that I've regularly observed on CBS is The Big Bang Theory and there are still times when I can not think that a series that frequently cites vague nerd-culture not just made it into the atmosphere, but has come to be a bonafide hit.
Thus, it was rather surprising as it was announced that CBS will be carrying out a brand new Supergirl show. Was the geriatric station prepared for superhero action? As Supergirl opens, we're told that the entire world Krytpon is perishing. An infant named Kal-El, who'd finally grow up to become Superman, is delivered to Earth. Kara arrives on Earth years after, having never obsolete.
The narrative then jumps ahead to the current. Kara currently lives in National City and operates in the media business CatCo since the personal assistant of creator Cat Grant. She's friends with co-worker Winn, and intrigued by new employ James Olsen. Kara is also quite near her adoptive sister, Alex. for each of her life in Earth, Kara has concealed her abilities, but if Alex's airplane is at risk, Kara rescues it and soon the entire world learns of Supergirl.
It is at this time that Kara learns that Alex works for a covert government agency that searches renegade aliens. Supergirl volunteers her services to the particular group, but soon finds out that being a superhero is quite difficult job. While films such as Batman V Superman, that can be based on DC Comics receive decidedly mixed reviews, the current tv series originated from those comic books are usually well-liked. The Flash and Arrow do nicely on The CW and they've shown that shows such as this can be enjoyable, and yet dramatic and that is it is exciting for fans once the displays circulates.
Supergirl comes from a number of the very same executives working on these shows, but the vibe of this series is somewhat distinct. At first glance, Supergirl appears very like its DC cousins, particularly The Flash. We've got a twenty-something superhero who must balance start a hero, a project, all of the while shielding their individuality. Both of them are surrounded by a set of men and women that are there to assist them and offer technical aid.
Both suffer from deceased parents and also have remorse surrounding this. It even crosses-over together with another DC displays, since the Flash looks on a single incident. And yet, something is only off using Supergirl. For starters, also for want of a better term, the series seems too "secure". Sure, Supergirl gets into lots of conflicts, but there's a never a legitimate sense of risk. Is this something that would be significant to some 24-year old girl? Obviously. But that does not mean that we need it featured on our superhero series.
It might appear counter-intuitive to presume that Supergirl is geared toward guys, which the series was intentionally made to appeal to girls, but there is no doubt that it is not in precisely the exact same league as its brethren. Can CBS interfere somehow? Were the manufacturers of this series told to tone it down so that it could be a much better match with all the networks other programs? The tone isn't the show's sole troubles. It is problematic for a series like this to prevent redundancy, but Supergirl feels particularly repetitive. The series can be saddled to with a lot of characters - here is a tip, locate one strong villain and stay with it.
It seems like I am being particularly difficult on Supergirl, but it really does pale compared to its own contemporaries. That is not to mention that the show is a complete tragedy. The characters are likeable, the tales includes some good spins, and it really does a great job of brining in figures in the DC Universe. Apparently not, since the series will proceed into The CW for the next season. It'll be intriguing to see whether the tone varies once it causes this jump.
